Born in 1959, Dr. Erhan Şafak completed his middle and high school education at Kadıköy Maarif College in İstanbul. He started studying at İstanbul University, İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1977. In 1982, he worked at the Diabetes Hospital in Paris, France for a while. After graduating from İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1983, he completed his compulsory service in Bursa. In 1986, he started his specialist training at Uludağ University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In 1987-1988, he worked in the field of microsurgery with Dr. Harry J. Buncke at Ralph K. Davies Medical Center in San Francisco, USA for 6 months and received a certificate in Hand Surgery and Microsurgery training. In 1990, he worked with the microsurgery team led by Dr. Ayan Gülgönen at İstanbul American Hospital for 3 months. He completed his specialization in 1991 and started working as a specialist in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine. He received the title of Assistant Professor in 1994 and from 1994 until the date he left the Faculty of Medicine, he worked as one of the faculty members responsible for the Department of Hand Surgery, which was established under the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
