Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, as its name suggests, is a surgery that must be performed by Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. This surgery is performed for the purposes of correcting the shape of the nasal bones and the tip of the nose, eliminating the hump in the nose, correcting the angle between the nose and the lips, and narrowing wide nasal wings.
If necessary, the crooked bones in the nose that prevent breathing can also be corrected at the same time.
Pre-Surgery Evaluation
In the first meeting, your plastic surgeon will ask you which part of your nose you have a complaint about and whether you have difficulty breathing. He will then examine the inside and outside of your nose and discuss your thoughts about the new shape of your nose with you. Good communication between you and your doctor is very important. The structure of your nasal bones and cartilages, the shape of your face, the thickness of your skin, your age, and your expectations will be the main topics of discussion. Your surgeon will tell you about the anesthesia and surgical technique he will use, the hospital where the surgery will be performed, the risks, and the cost. The earliest age recommended for rhinoplasty is 16-17 years old when 90% of the nose growth is complete. You should inform your doctor about any previous rhinoplasty or other surgery you have had, the medications you use and smoking. Another factor you should not forget is that rhinoplasty surgery can give your nose a new shape but cannot direct your life.
Complications of Surgery
If rhinoplasty surgery is performed by an experienced surgeon, complications (undesirable results) are not very common. However, complications may occur in the presence of certain factors that negatively affect the outcome of the surgery or in the event of poor healing. A second surgery may be required in approximately one in every 10 cases. The second surgery is a smaller and simpler surgery.
Type of Surgery
It is appropriate for rhinoplasty surgeries to be performed in fully equipped hospitals or medical centers. The surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on your surgeon’s preference. In most rhinoplasty surgeries, the incisions are made inside the nose and there is no visible surgical scar. Open rhinoplasty surgery can also be performed if necessary. In aesthetic nose surgery, excess bone and cartilage tissues protruding from the bridge of the nose are removed, the tip of the nose is lifted up and the wings of the nose are narrowed if necessary. The surgery usually takes 1.5-2 hours. At the end of the surgery, tampons are placed in the nostrils and a cast is applied to the nose. It is beneficial for the patient to stay in the hospital for one night after the surgery. The tampons applied to the nostrils are removed 2 days after the surgery, and the plaster on the nose is removed 1 week later and replaced with thin tapes. These tapes are also removed after staying on the nose for 1-2 weeks.
Post-Surgery Recovery
There may be swelling and bruising around the eyes in the post-surgery period, but this will improve within 10 days at most. There is a slight pain after the surgery that can be easily treated with medication. Even if patients stand up 1-2 days after the nose surgery, sports activities such as step and aerobics that increase blood pressure and even bending the head forward should be restricted for a few weeks. It will be a few weeks before you fully return to your daily life. It would be appropriate to protect your nose from impacts and blows and not to expose it to sunlight for 8 weeks. You can wear contact lenses when needed, but you should not use glasses that touch the bridge of the nose for 2 months.
Your New Look
With each passing day after the surgery, your nose will start to look more beautiful and your morale will gradually increase. However, recovery is a slow process. The permanent results of the aesthetic nose surgery may appear after a year or more.
