Ear Aesthetics
The most common aesthetic disorder in the ear is the deformity commonly known as protruding ear. Protruding ear is a condition in which the ear folds are not sufficiently formed due to the weakness of the ear cartilages and the ear is angled forward and sideways. This is generally a hereditary deformity.
Ear aesthetic surgery can generally be performed starting at the age of 4, when the ear development is complete.
Depending on personal conditions and the family’s preference, the surgery can also be performed in later years, but pre-school surgery should be preferred because it eliminates the possibility of the child being mocked by his/her friends because of his/her ears. Ear aesthetic surgery is not an intervention that carries serious risks. It can be performed under local or general anesthesia depending on the patient’s age. Hospitalization is not required. Ear surgery takes 1.5-2 hours. The technique to be used varies depending on the nature of the problem in the ear.
The surgery is generally based on the principle of reshaping the cartilages and creating a normal angle with an incision made behind the ear. Since the stitch scar will remain behind the ear, it will not be visible and will not attract attention.
Patients are required to wear a bandage that applies light pressure to their ears for ten days. At the end of this period, it is recommended that they continue to wear the bandage at night for a few more weeks to prevent the ears from opening again.
Protruding ear disorder and surgeries performed for this purpose have nothing to do with hearing function.
Aesthetic-Plastic Surgery is also related to other problems of the auricle, these are cases where the auricle is not formed congenitally, partially or completely. In such cases, it is possible to create a new auricle by taking cartilage from other parts of the body with a series of surgeries. In addition, the auricle can be created using the same method in patients who have lost their ears due to accidents or cancer.
